About Jason Soto

Jason Soto was born in a log cabin on a cold blistery June on the side of a mountain. Ever since that fateful day, he has made it his mission to no longer be born on the side of mountains. Instead, he has developed a love of board games and movies, none of which anyone on this planet has seen. His favorite board game is Cat-opoly and his favorite movie is Dorf On Golf.

GenCon 2016 I bought a copy of Pandemic Legacy: Season 1. It's been a game I been hearing about for almost a year at that point and everyone was going bonkers over it. At first I didn't think I would try it out because playing the game involves playing it between 12 and 24 times, and you sort of need the same group of people. I didn't think it would be possible to do that. But the hype train pulled up to my station and I decided to step on and take the crazy ride.

Our ride didn't begin until January 2017. I invited my friends Wavy and Kelly over to my place and along with my fiancee Felicia, we took a stab at it.

Now, Pandemic Legacy is a game riddled with spoilers. For those of you not in the know, while you play the game, you reveal cards that tell a story and sometimes you have to open boxes that further the story along. If you never played before and you plan on it, I'm gonna spoil the fuck out of it so you might wanna stop and come back later. OR you could watch the CineGamer episode I did on regular Pandemic. I was nominated for an award for that episode!*

Anyway, spoilers start now!

We started the game in January like I said and just the other day, we finished the whole thing! I was so excited that I forgot to take pictures at the time but I took some pictures a day later and I'm gonna share those with you now, explaining what the pictures mean.

Here is what the board itself looked like after we finished playing.

The world was saved by Steven Seagall, Bill Ding, Dr. Sally Seeker, and an unnamed virologist. Not sure why we didn't name her. Oops!

How our score broke down. If you're reading this, I'm assuming you know the game. If not, don't get mad at me. Anyway, we won a lot more games in the second half of each month than we did the first half. And there were whole months we lost. I'm surprised we even did as well as we did.

During the course of the game, you get to name your diseases. We went the almost literal route and named ours (from left to right): Heebie-Jeebies 1, cooties-2 (cause C-2 sounded awesome), and Blue Man Group 3. We didn't get to name the black disease because-

Black ended up being our COdA virus!! Which (if you played the game you know) ended up become "the faded" or as we liked to call them "zombies"! I don't know if they were technically zombies cause later they got to be cured but it was fun calling them zombies.

Yeah, the Middle East and parts of Africa took a beating in our game. Sorry, that part of the world!

Johannesburg kept getting outbreak after outbreak! It was probably the first city we had that had fallen. And of course, COdA found it's way there! Sorry to Johannesburg.

Yes, we had to open the dreaded box.

Overall, we really enjoyed the experience and didn't know where the story was going to go. We didn't know if we should trust the solider or not. The fact we had to go against what we knew as the core rules was both scary and exciting. This just made me super excited for Season 2, which is due sometime later this year. The only downside is we can't play it again but I will always have the memories of playing this with my friends forever.

*I wasn't nominated for anything, I'm just trying to get people to watch the episode.
